Pictures: Nigerian High School Students Developed Internet Crocodile Browser

Posted by: ABDULMULUQ in Technology 11 days ago 8 Comments 236 Views
These secondary school students taught themselves to code and, with encouragement from their parents and school, they’ve achieved something extraordinary.
>
Anesi and Osine Ikhianosime, 13 and 15 years old
respectively, are students of Greensprings school,
Anthony Campus, Lagos, and they developed an
Android based web browser called Crocodile Browser Lite sometime last year.
As a matter of fact, these teenagers’ creation is
actually on the Google Play Store. Speaking to
TechCabal.com, Osine, 13, said he writes the code
together with his brother, for their creations and his brother also designs the user interface.
>
According to both brothers, they started developing an Android based web browser, which they named
Crocodile Browser Lite, about a year ago, out of
boredom. Their strong interest in technology, coupled with their desire to learn, informed the decision to create a functional, fast browser for low end feature phones because “We were fed up with Google Chrome”, according to them.
The brothers launched their browser on the Mobango app before taking it onto the Google PlayStore so they could reach a wider audience.
Their browser currently has around 500 downloads,
but no ads yet. Their mother, Mrs. Ngozi Ikhianosime, a Math teacher, said, “Oseni could already use a PC before could read, at age 3.” She also said that the school the boys attended also played a key role in encouraging their love for coding. They had access to computers in school and they both had personal laptops at home.
With regards to Anesi, who is in his final year of
secondary school, his mother says, “After Anesi is
through with his secondary school education, will attend A levels, after which he will go to MIT in Boston for his first degree, because the university has the facilities he needs to learn well.”
Their father agrees and attests to the fact that the
school’s the boys’ attended were very instrumental
in their coding aspirations and continued interest.
As for Anesi, he would like to develop other apps with real-life problem solving applications.
The brothers plan to release a new version of their
browser, Crocodile Browser Lite 3.0, this April.

Tech: Learn How to Locate Your Lost Phone Using Google Search

Locate Lost Phone Using Google Search
Losing your phone is a nightmare, and things get worse when you know there is hardly any way to track it down.
Well but if you are an Android user, then you are in for a pleasant surprise.
Google recently introduced a new feature which can track down any Android phone or tablet by simply using ‘Google Search’. Here’s how it works!
Step 1: Make sure you are using/share the same Google account on your PC and Android phone or tablet. (Even if you aren’t, it will prompt you once you type in ‘find my phone’ in the Google search bar.)
Step2: Now type in ‘find my phone’ in the Google Search bar.
As soon as you hit enter, Google will start locating your phone on Google Maps.
Give it a few seconds and your phone’s preciselocation will be right in front of you.
It even shows how far it is from where you are sitting.
But what if your phone is under a pillow or stuck in a bed side.
Well, for that, there’s an option called ‘Ring’ which will make your phone ring at maximum volume for over 5 minutes.

Topic: Lack Of Accommodation Rocks Hard At Federal University Otuoke

The accommodation crisis rocking the Federal University, Otuoke (FUOTUOKE) took another dimension over the weekend as hundreds of male students were thrown out of their hostel following the inability of the state government to redeem its commitment of paying their accommodation fees.
.
According to reports, the students who resumed for academic activities, were denied entry into the hostels by the landlord who said that the state government failed to honour the agreement to pay him annually for the rented apartment.
.
The landlord, who is represented by Stream Solicitors, said that efforts to resolve the debts with the government amicably failed thus resulting to the ejection action.
.
A visit to the said hostels showed they are already under lock and key as students laments the unfortunate incident.

jokes of the day

On the night of their honeymoon, a newlywed couple has an unfortunate accident, resulting in the amputation of the groom's left foot. Unable to control her grief, the bride calls her mother from the hospital. "Mother," she sobs, "my husband has only one foot." The mother, trying to console her daughter, says, "That's alright dear, your father has only six inches."

2389244_twomenarrestedforstealingtubersofyamindeltastatephotos2
Two Men Arrested For Stealing Tubers of yam in Delta State, it’s funny what some people could do in the name of stealing and hunger.
Just this morning in Delta state two men Mr Kinsley Isolo and John Eharere were caught stealing tubers of yam in the local market in Isoko south local government popularly called Yanga Market.
According to witnesses, they had appeared like they wanted to buy food stuffs and that one of them was buying yam and that they had succeeded in distracting the woman who sells the stolen properties.
The culprits were caught as a result of the numerous eyes that had seen the whole incident.
So far the event took place in broad day light which was enough reason for even passers by to see what transpired.
Mr Kingsley ,on seeing the reaction of the crowd took to his heels thus his fellow man in the crime ran his own way too.

This caused a ruckus in the market as some men chased after the thieves. They were later caught and brought to the scene where it had all happened.
The angry mob immediately swooped into action torturing the men who had been caught inflicting numerous injuries on them it was later on that the police had arrived at the scene and took both men to the station for justice to prevail.
The owner of the stall was questioned and said that they had come to her to price her yams and that she had refused selling since the price they had bargained didn’t suit her taste and that she was going to get more yams when she heard screams of thieves only to turn and see that it was her that had been robbed.
According to her she Is very happy now that she had recovered her properties and that she believes the police will handle the job well and put those men behind bars where they are meant to be.
The Oleh Division police, had thanked the public for reacting fast to such situations and that they should always be on the lookout for one another to help reduce crime rate in Nigeria

About Osun State, History......

About

Osun State is an inland state in south-western Nigeria. Its capital is Osogbo. It is bounded in the north by Kwara State, in the east partly by Ekiti State and partly by Ondo State, in the south by Ogun State and in the west by Oyo State.

History

The struggle for the creation of Osun started as early as 1950. At that time, the present senatorial districts namely Osun West, Central and part of Osun East were subordinate towns under the administration of Ibadan District Native Authority but in there determination to get independence, traditional rulers and citizens of Osun Area submitted a petition to the British Colonial Administration in Nigeria demanding autonomy for Osun Division, with Osogbo proposed as the headquarters
To realise their aim, they pursued this agenda further in 1951, when a Commission Of Inquiry was set up the Colonialists, headed by H.L Butcher primarily saddled with investigating the crisis in Ibadan District Native Authority between Chief Salami Agbaje and Olubadan-in-Council. At this commission, named H.L Butcher Commission of Inquiry, a representation was made by people of Osun Area reiterating their resolve for autonomy. This demand was granted on March 17th 1951, thus recommending autonomy for Osun District Towns on April 1st 1951.
The resilience and doggedness of the founding fathers and crusaders for the creation of Osun was rewarded on August 27th 1991, when the administration of Gen Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida created nine states with Osun created out of Oyo State with Osogbo as the capital. It was a dream fulfilled and hope achieved.

People

The major ethnic group in Osun state is Yoruba with sub-ethnic groups such as Ife, Ijesha, Oyo, Ibolo and Igbomina and there are also people from other parts of Nigeria. Yoruba and English are widely spoken in the state. The people of Osun State practice Islam, Christianity and paganism.

Jonathan Meets Buhari In Secret Again?

iews
Goodluck Jonathan has again met behind closed doors with the President-elect, Muhammadu Buhari. The meeting was held inside the President’s office at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
It is the third time he would be meeting Buhari after INEC declared him winner of the presidential poll. The meeting, which held at night, just like the first one they had on a public holiday (Good Friday), was described as “private” and so it was not open to journalists.
Buhari arrived for the meeting in a convoy of about four cars at about 9pm.

According to Aso Rock sources, the meeting lasted less than 30 minutes.
Although there was no official communication on the meeting, it might not be unconnected with the ongoing transition programmes and preparation for Buhari’s inauguration on May 29.
At the end of their second meeting, Jonathan had told State House correspondents that a date would be picked during which he would conduct Buhari round the Presidential Villa before his inauguration day.
But the APC is not ready for such excursion from Jonathan. They believe Buhari knows Aso Rock well.

My brother stole 21 phones in one month –Adebayor

Emmanuel Adebayor
Emmanuel Adebayor
Former African Footballer of the Year Emmanuel Adebayor has launched an astonishing attack on his family, in which the Tottenham Hotspur striker accuses them of turning their backs on him, renting out property he paid for without his knowledge. In the case of his brother Rotimi, Adebayor accused him stealing mobile telephones while at a football academy in France.
In a lengthy Facebook post, the Togo international Adebayor talked about the financial burden of supporting his family but his reasons for bringing the issues light were an effort for other families to “learn from what happened in mine”, adding “keep in mind that none of this is about money.”
In the post, he has claimed he was prevented from seeing his now-deceased brother Peter who was seriously ill and was told by his mother to “just give money”. He also says that, after a 2005 meeting to resolve their family’s problems, he was told to build each member a house and to pay them a monthly wage.
“I was in Ghana when I received the news about my brother Peter being seriously ill,” Adebayor claimed. “I drove the fastest I could to Togo in order to meet him and help. When I arrived, my mother said I could not see him and I should just give the money and she would solve everything. Only God knows how much I gave her that day.
“I organised a meeting in 2005 to solve our family issues. When I asked them about their opinion, they said I should build each family member a house and give each of them a monthly wage.”
Adebayor, who played for Metz and Monaco before moving to the Premier League with first Arsenal in 2006, then on to Manchester City and Tottenham, said of his brother Rotimi, “When I was in Monaco I thought it would be good to have a family of footballers. So I made sure my brother Rotimi gets into a football academy in France. Within a few months; out of 27 players, he stole 21 phones.”
He has also claimed that his sister rented out a house he bought in Ghana for her to stay in without his permission. “A couple years ago, I bought a house in East Lagon (Ghana) for $1.2m,” claimed Adebayor. “I found it normal to let my older sister, Yabo Adebayor stay in that house. I also allowed my half brother (Daniel) to stay in the same house.
A few months later, I was on vacation and decided to go to that house. At my surprise, I saw many cars in the driveway. In fact, my sister decided to rent out the house without me knowing.
“When I called her and asked for explanation, she took about 30 minutes to abuse and insult me over the phone. I called my mother to explain the situation and she did the same as my sister. This same sister says I am ungrateful.”
Last November, Adebayor denied stories he had kicked his mother out of his house in Togo and accused people of practising witchcraft against him. He has now claimed she has turned her back on him, despite using his face in order to promote a cookie business.
“At the age of 17, with my first wages as a footballer, I built a house for my family and made sure they are safe,” he wrote. “As you all know, I have received the trophy of African Player of the Year in 2008. I also brought my mother on stage with me to thank her for everything. In that same year, I brought her to London for various medical checkups. When my daughter was born, we contacted my mum to inform her but she immediately hung up the phone and didn’t wanna know hear about it.
“Apart from all that l also gave my mother a great amount of money to start a business of cookies and different items. Naturally, I allowed them to put my name and picture on them so they can sell more. What else can a son do in his power to support his family?”

Lionel Messi scored twice as Barcelona struck three times in the final 13 minutes of the first leg to whisk their Champions League semi-final tie away from a stubborn Bayern Munich side.
The hosts seemed set for a frustrating night before Messi fired a low shot home from the edge of the area.
Three minutes later he skipped past Jerome Boateng and dinked home coolly.
Led by ex-Barca boss Pep Guardiola, Bayern pushed for an away goal and were punished again as Neymar raced clear.
Until the devastating conclusion, the Germans had produced an excellent tactical display.
